Counting sticks according to the Kuisener method are a universal didactic material for the development of mathematical abilities in children. They are called differently - a set of sticks for numbers, "numbers in color", "colored sticks", "colored numbers".
The set consists of 56 wooden sticks of 10 different colors, with a section of 10x10 mm, which differ in length and color. Sticks of the same length are made in one color. The greater the length of the stick, the greater the numerical value it expresses - the smallest stick ("one") with a length of 10 mm denotes the number 1, each subsequent one is longer by 10 mm and denotes the next ordinal number: pink - the number 2 (20 mm), blue - number 3 (30 mm), etc. Each set contains 16 colored mini-cards with tasks of three difficulty levels.
Using the example of counting sticks, the child quickly, visually and in the process of playing gets an understanding of basic mathematical concepts:
- a number and its composition
- a natural series of numbers
- direct and reverse number
- quantities and concepts: more, less, equal, higher, lower, longer, shorter
- orientation on the plane, right, left
- addition, subtraction on sticks
- help when studying the multiplication table
- a visual demonstration of the division of the whole into parts.
