Ukraine-made household chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes – brief overview

1. Production of household chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes in Ukraine  

Ukraine produces wide assortment of household chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes. For instance, according to the results of 2018 there have been 10.94 thousand tons of soaps and surface active organic agents in bars and similar forms produced. Surface active organic anionic agents (apart from soaps) have been produced in the amount of 3.96 thousand tons. 

Other forms of soaps and surface active organic agents have been produced in the amount of 2.39 thousand tons; packaged detergents with or without soap contents including auxiliary detergents have been produced in the amount of 192.83 thousand tons; and unpackaged (bulk) detergents – in the amount of 6.55 thousand tons. 

According to the results of 2018 Ukraine has also produced 1.074 thousand tons of cosmetics for manicure and pedicure, 429.02 tons of cosmetic powder, 6.69 thousand tons of cosmetics for face-painting or skin care, 1,112.14 dals of shampoos, 5.24 thousand tons of lotions and other hair care products. 

To crown it all, in 2018 Ukraine has produced 6,394 dals of perfumes and 29.9 dals of toilet waters. Preparations for aromatization or deodorization of air have been produced in amount of 331.57 thousand kilograms. [1]

2. Largest producers 

Household Chemicals Factory ‘Milam’ LLC [2] is Ukraine’s household chemicals production leader. ‘МилаМ’ TM’s product assortment reckons more than 80 entries of high-quality and effective household chemical products, including means for cleaning plumbing equipment, drain pipes- and siphons-cleaning products; means for fat, silt, soot, rust removal; bleaching and disinfecting means; means for washing, carpet-cleaning, rinsing, starching; dishes- and glass-washing means, as well as liquid soap with original curative complexes and universal detergents.

Products are manufactured under such trademarks as: ‘САМА’ TM, ‘SAMA’ TM, ‘E’Va’ TM, ‘Сантри’ TM, ‘Эконом’ TM, ‘Флорика’ TM, ‘ФитоБум’ TM. Product assortment reckons more than 100 commodities. The production cycle is complete – from development of own cleaning and washing household chemicals recipes to output of ready-made products.

‘GDU’ LTD [4] is one of the largest Ukraine’s producers of household chemicals and cosmetics. Since the very beginning of its creation European safety standards and values have become determinant for the company. The products are manufactured under such trademarks as: ‘A-sense kids’ TM, ‘DESYTOL’ TM, ‘GOLD’ TM, ‘CYTRUS’ TM, ‘WINDOW’ TM, ‘ATTIS’ TM, ‘ECOline’ TM, ‘LEMON’ TM, ‘FRESH’ TM, ‘SANIX’ TM, ‘Mr. Starch’ TM, ‘BOOSTER’ TM, ‘FLOOR’ TM, ‘Білизна’ TM.

‘DeLaMark’ LLC [5] is a Ukrainian company manufacturing household chemicals and cosmetic care products which was the first to receive international ‘Living Planet’ Certificate (as per ISO 14024) for the entire product line. The company leads in implementing ecological initiatives, such as correspondence to ‘Zero Waste’ concept. Every year the company product assortment is enriched with new body care products, house- and items-cleaning substances. ‘Slobozhansky Soap Boiler’ LTD [9] is one of Ukraine’s leaders in terms of production of toilette soap, cosmetic soap, baby soap, soap with improved dermatological properties (cream soap), glycerin semi-transparent soap, as well as liquid toilette soap and hard laundry soap. Company’s products are known under such trademarks as: ‘CHIC’ TM, ‘Sedmoye Nebo’ TM, ‘Uti-Puti’ TM, ‘Droug’ TM, ‘POSHE’ TM, ‘oDa’ TM, ‘Sila’ TM – more than 200 product entries total.

‘Zolotonosha Factory of Perfumes and Cosmetics’ PrJSC [10] develops its products following the best national and foreign traditions. Compositions by prominent companies are used in production process. Product quality is controlled at all stages of production process by own accredited laboratory. 

‘BZ Parfums’ TM [11] is the first Ukrainian niche brand of perfumes. Perfumer Bohdan Zubchenko has been embodying the ‘ALEA’ series of perfumed waters since 1993. ‘BZ PARFUMS’ constantly arouses interest of those, who appreciate quality and exclusivity of perfumery compositions’ accomplishment. Aromas by ‘ALEA’ series are musical and picturesque. They hold music of various tonalities, plot, feelings and dramaturgy. 

3. High quality raw materials by world producers 

Ukrainian producers apply only high-quality verified raw materials. For instance, the main suppliers for Household Chemicals Factory ‘Milam’ LLC are such famous world producers as: ‘Kao Chemicals GmbH’ (Germany), ‘Clariant’ (Spain), ‘Ciba’ (Switzerland), ‘Fragrance Oils’ (England), ‘Bristol Chemicals LTD’, ‘HUNTSMAN’ (Italy), ‘Cognis’ (Luxembourg), ‘AKzo Nobel’, ‘Rhodian’ and others. The raw materials to be used are tested in accredited laboratories as per a number of criteria and the ready-made products are attested according to ecological, hygienic and toxicological indicators, which allows to guarantee its high quality, confirmed by conclusions of Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the EU countries. 4. International quality standards of Ukraine-made household chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes 

Ukrainian enterprises have implemented and now successfully apply ISO 9001 international system of management control quality, ISO 14001 ecological management system and OHSAS 18001 system of professional safety and health management.

5. Exported volumes and geography of exports

Ukraine actively exports household chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes. For instance, ‘Slobozhansky Soap Boiler’ LTD exports its products to 63 countries of the world, [15] whereas ‘Supermash’ LTD’s dealer network reckons more than 100 companies in Ukraine, CIS countries and Baltic States. ‘Zolotonosha Factory of Perfumes and Cosmetics’ PrJSC [16] exports to Russia, Baltic States and Germany.  

According to the results of 2018 Ukraine has exported 17.57 thousand tons of soaps, surface-active organic agents and detergents (in bars) for the amount of USD25.43 million. European countries have purchased most – 6.61 thousand tons for the amount of USD12.44 million. The CIS countries have acquired 9.46 thousand tons for the amount of USD11.09 million. 

Surface active organic agents (apart from soap) in 2018 have been exported in the amount of 17.44 thousand tons and USD16.98 million. The CIS countries have purchased most – 9.45 thousand tons for the amount of USD9.77. European countries have imported 5.72 thousand tons for the amount of USD5.03 million.

According to the results of 2018 Ukraine has exported 2.66 thousand tons of cosmetic preparations and face-painting products, skin care preparations for the amount of USD45.11 million. The CIS countries have purchased 1.72 thousand tons for the amount of USD14.00 million. European countries have imported 742.59 tons for the amount of USD13.19 million. Asian countries have acquired 157.52 tons for the amount of USD2.81 million. 

Hair care products have been exported by Ukraine in 2018 in the amount of 7.22 thousand tons and USD24.09 million. The CIS countries have purchased 4.97 thousand tons for the amount of USD16.63 million. European countries have purchased 1.03 thousand tons for the amount of USD2.25 million. Asian countries have acquired 1.19 thousand tons for the amount of USD4.92 million. 

According to the results of 2018 Ukraine has also exported 343.83 tons of perfumes and toilet waters for the amount of USD33.38 million. The CIS countries have purchased 127.04 tons for the amount of USD1.73 million. European countries have purchased 137.23 tons for the amount of USD289.0 thousand. Asian countries have acquired 15.79 tons for the amount of USD1.13 million. Other (unspecified) countries have purchased 63.42 tons for the amount of USD30.18 million. [17]

Products used for shaving as well as deodorants and preparations for baths have been exported in the amount of 5.67 thousand tons for the amount of USD12.18 million. The CIS countries have purchased 4.44 thousand tons for the amount of USD8.32 million. European countries have acquired 1.01 thousand tons for the amount of USD1.62 million, Asian countries – 208.82 tons for the amount of USD1.53 million. [18]
