Ukraine-made women’s accessories – brief overview

Production of women’s accessories in Ukraine 

Ukraine produces broad range of accessories for women, namely: gloves (leather, suede, knitted, made of polymeric materials, etc.), belts (made of natural leather and suede and executed in the most diverse colour solutions), sun-protective glasses for any taste, hats and titfers, berets and panamas, molded hats, wide-brimmed hats, wallets, bags, etc. 

For instance, according to the results of 2020 Ukraine produced: 514.8 thousand pieces of natural leather women’s bags; 1,299.7 thousand pieces of natural leather suitcases and handbags; 38,563.1 thousand pairs of knitted gloves and mitts; 3,350.2 thousand pairs of non-knitted gloves and mitts; 765.2 thousand pieces of titfers and other hand- or machine-knitted headgear, headgear made of lace canvases, woolen felt, other textile fabrics, etc.; as well as 50.5 thousand pieces of titfers and other headgear made of fur and wool-fur felt, hat semi-finished products, flat and cylindrical blanks. Largest producers

‘KENT&AVER’ TM [2] produces broad range of summer, autumn and winter headgear for women and men. Models of angora will perfectly suit cold winter, same as will do insulated hats and scarf collars sets. Hats made of natural flax hats and mixed-contents cotton fabrics will be best for summer heat. ‘KENT&AVER’ TM-branded caps and panamas, molded and soft wide-brimmed hats, celentano-style hats, trilbies, boaters, fedoras, etc. find their admirers among the consumers of different ages each and every year.

‘MIC’ Company’ Private Enterprise [3] is one of Ukraine’s largest producers of haberdashery products made of natural and synthetic materials. More than a thousand entries of women’s bags, rucksacks, cosmetic bags, folders, etc. are produced here. Own production base, contemporary equipment, experience and personnel’s skills, many-year co-operation with Ukrainian and European producers of natural and synthetic leather, haberdashery accessories provide a possibility to manufacture quality and competitive products at affordable price. 

‘POOLPARTY’ TM [4] is a youth Ukrainian brand producing bags and other fashionable accessories for women and men, namely: leather bags, textile bags, quilted bags, combined bags, rucksacks, belt bags, wallets, cosmetic bags, beach bags, shoulder bags, etc. 

‘Heatmans’ TM [5] was founded by a Ukrainian American Nick Rozar. After visiting the land of Hutsuls Nick decided to create spectacles using folk motifs in their design. Unique collections of spectacles decorated with Hutsul-inspired carvings and patterns. The spectacles’ rims are carved with ethnic ornaments, thus, combining ancient traditions and contemporary fashion in their design. ‘Heatmans’-branded spectacles are popular among American celebrities.

‘BLANKNOTE’ TM [6] is a prominent Ukrainian producer of natural leather accessories. The company was founded in 2011 and is aimed at creation and production of accessories able to be unchangeable and favourite for many long years. The brand’s model range reckons-up over 100 product types: wallets, purses, card holders, travel cases, bags, rucksacks, sheaths and cases, covers, etc. Accessories by ‘Blanknote’ TM stand out for their laconicism, universality and original design solutions. The brand constantly updates and augments its product assortment.

‘Sammy Icon’ TM [7] is a full-scale brand of accessories comprising: glasses, bags, wallets, socks, etc. The  main principle of company’s work is to brighten common everyday accessories. Brand’s product range comprises more than 200 designs, whose number grows season by season.

‘Lucky Look’ TM [8] is a young Ukrainian brand producing sunglasses. The assortment provides for the wide choice of aviator sunglasses and classic models both with thin rim and with thick plastic one. All models have lens made of optical premium class polymer. 

‘Blackwood’ TM’s [9] distinctive feature is the wooden rim for all models of sunglasses. Each pair is a unique handmade specimen, and that is why it is impossible to ever find another copy. The assortment is comprised of more than 30 models of men’s, women’s and unisex sunglasses.

3. High quality of Ukraine-made products

Ukraine-made accessories for women are of high quality and correspond to international standards. 

Ukrainian factories have installed contemporary highly technological equipment provided by prominent world manufacturers. Quality management system at Ukrainian factories is set and functions in accordance with international ISO standard. 

The products are made only of high-quality raw materials. Most models are hand-made. For instance, the products under ‘Blackwood’ TM are made only of high-quality wood species, namely: maple, multi-layer zebra tree, American nut tree, etc.

The lenses are polarized and are made of optical CR-39 plastic with maximum UV 400 protection. [10]

Exported volumes and geography of exports

Ukraine-made accessories for women are actively exported. For instance, the products by ‘Sammy Icon’ TM can be met in more than 20 countries of the world, including the USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Russia, etc. [11] The ‘Heatmans’-branded spectacles are popular in the USA. [12]

According to the results of the first semester 2020 Ukraine exported 132.72 tons of leather women’s bags, wallets, briefcases, etc. tor the total amount of USD4.53 million. Poland purchased most – 37.81 tons for the amount of USD1.46 million. Among European countries it was followed by Germany (17.39 tons for the amount of USD721.8 thousand), France (11.67 tons for the amount of USD550.7 thousand), Italy (6.74 tons for the amount of USD272.9 thousand), Estonia (5.47 tons for the amount of USD123.9 thousand). Among the CIS countries most purchases were made by Moldova – 14.33 tons for the amount of USD191.3 thousand.

In January-June 2020 Ukraine exported 4.70 tons of spectacles and sunglasses for the total amount of USD1.41 million (with most purchases made by China (1.79 tons for the amount of USD68.3 thousand), Belarus (931.6 kilograms for the amount of USD32.0 thousand) and Latvia (24.8 kilograms for the amount of USD12.5 thousand)). Other countries imported 446.5 kilograms for the amount of USD1.25 million. Ukraine also exported 147.09 tons of gloves for the total amount of USD2.54 million (with most purchases made by Germany (138.42 tons for the amount of USD2.40 million) and Hungary (1.86 tons for the amount of USD107.6 thousand)). 

In the first semester 2020 Ukraine exported 36.25 tons of knitted titfers and other headgear for the total amount of USD2.51 million. 

Germany purchased most – 12.81 tons for the amount of USD688.0 thousand. Among European countries it was followed by: Italy (1.25 tons for the amount of USD539.6 thousand), the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1.03 tons for the amount of USD333.8 thousand), Denmark (4.45 tons for the amount of USD258.0 thousand), Poland (1.88 tons for the amount of USD85.4 thousand), Czech Republic (1.19 tons for the amount of USD84.2 thousand), Iceland (283.2 kilograms for the amount of USD44.9 thousand), Estonia (702.8 kilograms for the amount of USD39.3 thousand), Latvia (1.52 tons for the amount of USD30.8 thousand), Lithuania (3.01 tons for the amount of USD20.8 thousand). Among the CIS countries most purchases were made by Russia (5.03 tons for the amount of USD79.5 thousand) and Belarus (848.6 kilograms for the amount of USD39.3 thousand). The countries of both Americas were led by the USA (108.9 kilograms for the amount of USD24.5 thousand) and Canada (133.6 kilograms for the amount of USD12.0 thousand).

According to the results of the second semester 2020 Ukraine exported 197.23 tons of leather women’s bags, wallets, briefcases, etc. tor the total amount of USD6.60 million. Poland purchased most - 51.94 tons for the amount of USD2.69 million. Among European countries it was followed by France (17.38 tons for the amount of USD1.05 million), Germany (17.93 tons for the amount of USD855.2 thousand) and Italy (7.07 tons for the amount of USD396.7 thousand). Among the CIS countries most purchases were made by Moldova - 48.21 tons for the amount of USD277.3 thousand. The countries of both Americas were led by the USA with 7.53 tons for the amount of USD178.8 thousand. 

In July-December 2020 Ukraine also exported 5.02 tons of spectacles and sunglasses for the total amount of USD1.86 million. Russia purchased most – 1.37 tons for the amount of USD16.3 thousand. Moldova purchased 733.8 kilograms for the amount of USD10.1 thousand; France purchased 14.8 kilograms for the amount of USD8.5 thousand. Other countries imported 729.5 kilograms for the amount of USD1.80 million. Ukraine also exported 114.78 tons of gloves for the total amount of USD2.08 million. Most purchases were made by Germany (112.36 tons for the amount of USD1.95 million and Hungary (2.03 tons for the amount of USD119.4 thousand).

In the second semester 2020 Ukraine also exported 89.24 tons of knitted titfers and other headgear for the total amount of USD3.19 million.

Germany purchased most again – 10.96 tons for the amount of USD591.2 thousand. Among European countries it was followed by: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1.36 tons for the amount of USD509.5 thousand), Italy (798.3 kilograms for the amount of USD405.9 thousand), Denmark (8.55 tons for the amount of USD377.9 thousand), Poland (13.67 tons for the amount of USD189.4 thousand), Norway (2.01 tons for the amount of USD122.1 thousand), Lithuania (6.46 tons for the amount of USD61.8 thousand), Czech Republic (709.1 kilograms for the amount of USD55.1 thousand), Estonia (750.1 kilograms for the amount of USD36.6 thousand), Latvia (406.5 kilograms for the amount of USD14.2 thousand), Austria (35.0 kilograms for the amount of USD13.2 thousand).

Among the CIS countries most purchases were made by Russia (33.61 tons for the amount of USD358.1 thousand), Moldova (4.38 tons for the amount of USD28.1 thousand) and Belarus (485.7 kilograms for the amount of USD22.1 thousand). Asian countries were led by China (186.6 kilograms for the amount of USD83.2 thousand) and Taiwan (176.3 kilograms for the amount of USD76.0 thousand). The countries of both Americas were topped by Canada with 266.3 kilograms for the amount of USD73.2 thousand and the USA with 3.57 tons for the amount of USD39.2 thousand. [13]
