The icon of the Resurrection of Christ is an icon depicting the Lord the Son of God Himself. This icon depicts the central Event of the Christian faith, its cornerstone. If there had been no Resurrection of Christ, then not only would there be no Christianity, but also faith in God, in the power of goodness and truth, might have been undermined, and the meaning of the life of an Orthodox Christian would have been lost.
The whole complexity of the iconography of the Resurrection is connected with the need to show that Christ is not only the Risen One, but also the Resurrector. The liberation of humanity (now all humanity, and not just the Jewish people) from slavery (no longer to the Egyptian pharaoh, but to death and sin itself) is being carried out just as rapidly.
