Alexander Nevsky played an exceptional role in Russian history. At a time when Rus' was attacked from three sides: the Catholic West, the Mongol-Tatars and Lithuania, Alexander Nevsky, at the cost of incredible efforts, managed not only to preserve the state, but also to save the lives of its citizens.

According to legend, during the funeral service the prince extended his hand and, as if alive, he himself took the spiritual letter from the hands of the metropolitan. This legend originated within the walls of the Vladimir Nativity Monastery, where Saint Alexander Nevsky was buried. His first Life was also compiled there in 1280.
