The front side of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. On the back is the Kazan Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the most revered. The icon was revealed at a fire in Kazan in 1579. In 1904, the shrine was stolen and destroyed, but the miraculous power of the icon was revealed by the Mother of God in many of its copies. Through prayer to the Kazan Icon, many healings are performed, as well as miracles associated with help in arranging personal life.
