The front side of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the back is written the initial verse of the protective prayer to the Honorable Cross of the Lord. This prayer is read in danger, and also carried with oneself for protection from evil forces: “May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His face.” As smoke disappears, let them disappear; As wax melts in the presence of fire, so let demons perish in the presence of those who love God.”
