Silver amulet of St. Benedict 131553 Onyx

On the front side of the medallion is an image of St. Benedict. In his right hand he holds a cross, a symbol of Christian salvation. The cross serves to remind us of the hard work done primarily by Benedictine monks and nuns, especially from the 6th to the 9th and 10th centuries, to spread the Gospel and civilization to England and Europe.
In his left hand St. Benedict holds the Rule for Monasteries, which can be briefly described by the words of the Prologue, calling us to “walk in God's ways, guided by the Gospel.”
On the pedestal to the right of St. Benedict is a poisoned chalice that broke when he made the sign of the cross. On the pedestal on the left is a raven, ready to carry a loaf of poisoned bread, given to St. Benedict by his envious enemy.
Above the cup and raven are the Latin words: Crux s. patris Benedicti (Cross of our Holy Father Benedict). On the edges of the medallion, framing the figure of Benedict, are the Latin words: Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur! (So ​​our strength will increase by his presence at the hour of our death!).

On the back of the medallion the main image is a cross. On the sides of the cross are the first letters of the Latin prayer: Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux! (Let the Holy Cross be my light! Let no evil spirit be my leader!).
In the corners of the cross, the letters CSPB stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (Cross of Our Holy Father Benedict).
Above the cross is written the word PAX (peace), which has been the main appeal of the Benedictines for many centuries. Along the edges of the reverse side of the medal are the letters VRSNSMV - SMQLIVB, which are the first letters, as mentioned above, of the Latin prayer of exorcism against Satan: Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas! (Go away, Satan! Don’t inspire me to vanity! What you offer is evil. Drink the poison yourself!)
