The front side depicts the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Standing before Him on both sides are the Most Holy Theotokos and St. The prophet and Forerunner of the Lord John the Baptist, who has special boldness before God, prays for all people.

Icons where they are depicted praying to Christ are called deesis, which means “prayer.” On the back is written a prayer: “Save, Lord, Thy people and bless Thy inheritance.”
