The front side of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Standing before Him on both sides in deesis (praying for people) are the Most Holy Theotokos and John the Baptist, the Baptist of the Lord. Below is the image of the Great Martyr Panteleimon, who was given by God a special gift of healing. Through prayer to him, many miracles are still performed throughout the Christian world. On the reverse side of the cross there is an icon of the Mother of God “The Tsarina of All”. In front of this icon they pray for healing from fatal diseases and for deliverance from witchcraft. “Do not entrust me to human intercession, Most Pure Lady,” is written under the image of the Mother of God.
